Volume and thin polymer holographic elements for optical vortex generation
Belarusian State University,
Optical vortices have found applications in micromanipulation, optical communication systems, laser material processing, and other fields. In this context, the search for novel media and the development of holographic recording methods based on them remain relevant, enabling the fabrication of passive, high-efficiency multiplex elements for generating phase-singular beams. This paper presents a holographic recording technique (employing the Leith–Upatnieks off-axis scheme) for volume and thin (relief-phase) transmission diffractive elements based on a polymer material with pendant anthracene groups, designed for optical vortex generation. The holographic recording conditions were optimized to achieve maximum diffraction efficiency. The preservation of phase singularity in the reconstructed beams was experimentally confirmed. For relief-phase holograms, the formation of multiple diffraction orders carrying optical vortices is demonstrated; the wavelength dependence of diffraction efficiency agrees well with theoretical predictions. The fabricated element operates across the entire visible and near-infrared spectral range, and its experimentally estimated laser-induced damage threshold reaches 100 kW/cm². The obtained results highlight the potential of the proposed polymer material for the development of high-efficiency multiplex elements for modern photonic applications.
