Features of a segmented electromagnetic calorimeter based on LYSO crystals located in a uniform magnetic field
JINR, Russia
The problems that arise when creating an electromagnetic calorimeter based on LYSO crystals located in a magnetic field are studied. These include the non-uniformity of the light collection depending on position of the particle electromagnetic shower, measurement errors of the energy released in the calorimeter due to the non-uniformity of the crystal optical parameters, the influence of the incidence angle of the charged particles relative to the end surface of the scintillators on the calorimeter parameters. For a segmented calorimeter located in a magnetic field, an optimal wrapping method is proposed that allows to light collection in the cells more uniform. The distributions of scintillator responses along the length of the crystal are measured. The responses of the calorimeter prototype for the angles of incidence of cosmic muons 0, 9 and 19o relative to the prototype calorimeter end surface are measured. The detector non-uniformity for these angles are calculated. For the cosmic muon incidence angles of 0, 9 and 19o, estimation of the calorimeter prototype resolution is 4, 2 and 6%, respectively.
