Chaos and disorder are ubiquitous manifestations of nature that are normally unwanted in applications, as their unpredictability is often perceived as a detrimental effect. On the contrary, if properly understood, they can be the basis of a new technology that can surpass by orders of magnitude classical solutions. In this invited talk, I will summarize my theoretical and experimental research in the field, discussing chaotic energy harvesting, ultrafast subwavelength rogue waves and and more general noise-assisted nonlinear optics phenomena.
